A WIP 2025 #17: May 8 - May 14
I spent as much time outside as I possibly could last week. Good thing, too, because it's going to storm and then be chilly next week. So most of my time was spent on outdoor projects, but I squeezed in a few other crafts too!
So what did I get up to last week?
Fearne
Dryad Alternate Outfit
Pergola Cover
Fearne: I finished up the leaf details for the bodice. Hand sewing always takes longer than expected, but all things considered I finished getting the leaves on pretty quickly. This week has been pretty heavy on the hand sewing, so I'll have to give myself a break from it at some point!
Dryad: Because my dryad/korok costume is can get warm with all that fabric, I decided I wanted an alternate option. I actually made most of it last year, but it wasn't a priority to finish it then, so I put it off until recently. I am back to crocheting a leaf trim on the edge of the crop top I made from the off cuts of the larger costume. This is my "I need to do something with my hands while watching TV project" because I want it to be done before Ren in the Glen this year.
Pergola Cover: This was the bulk of what I worked on this past week. I repaired 3 of the rips and started working on the sashiko embroidery I'm decorating the patches with. To repair the rips I am first ladder stitching the sides together, with the raw edges facing the bottom. Then I am making a patch with the leftover fabric from the work I did last week, and attaching that to the bottom side of the cover. This is because the bottom side isn't sun faded, so it's easier to match. Once the patch is on I add a honeycomb pattern of sashiko stitching over it. I'm going to add more embroidery once all the patches are added, but I want to make sure I have enough of the thread I'm using for the honey combs before I add additional details.
With the incoming rain I may have to drag this thing into my basement… which I'm not looking forward to since it's covered in dirt and tree nonsense. However, it will be worth it to have it finished by the time it's sunny outside again!
