A WIP 2025 #18: May 15 - June 4
Oh…Hi… I'm back! It turns out I can only do a couple of large projects at a time. I spent the last 3 weeks preparing for my partner's birthday party and I started streaming on Twitch!! I have streamed 3 times so far and my next stream is actually tomorrow. It's a different vibe from this blog, I'm playing Pokémon Snap and using my Zoology degree to rattle off animal facts. BUT the ideas around using nerdy hobbies to encourage people to care about the environment is the same!
So let's get back to what I've been up to:
Repaired Pergola cover
Worked on my garden
Made a couple of bee houses
Got my office ready for streaming
Worked on Fearne Leggies
Pergola Cover: I ended up not being able to do everything I wanted with this pergola cover. I had wanted to add more drainage holes, and embroider all over the repaired areas. But I ran out of time. I did manage to repair everything AND I was able to add some embroidery. It's good enough for this year.
Garden: One of our main goals for the party was making our back yard look nicer. We also wanted to start our first vegetable garden. In one of our garden beds, we have been fighting weeds for years and it's mostly been frustrating. So we covered it in river stone and decided to make a container garden instead. Much like my herb garden, I was able to use only left over plastic pots and a couple of planters we got from our local Buy Nothing group.
Bee Houses: Part of my idea for this container garden was to have a couple of bee houses for native bees. My Joe Pie Weed plants regularly get to 8+ feet tall, and we have a lot of leftover stems from them every year. I was able to cut those stems to size and fill both bee houses with them. One of the bee houses I got a couple of years ago. But the second one I made using an old birdfeeder I stopped using because one of my dogs can't handle birds on our property… So I converted it into a bee house. I also added a couple of bee watering plates in the garden. There are three total made using the water catch plates from the bottoms of flower pots and some glass beads to keep insects from drowning.
Streaming: Getting my office ready for streaming has been a work in progress for the last year or so. We have upgraded my computer, redid my set-up so it's easier to access all the cords, and put up a nice shelf for me to decorate. The finishing touches we added in the past few weeks were a folding screen to be my back drop (so my messy craft room can be hidden from view) and a curtain to block the intense light I can get from my office window. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. It looks great from the camera AND the screen doesn't take up too much room in my tiny craft room <3
Fearne: I swear I'm still working on this cosplay!! Just today I started working on finishing up the faun leggies. I tried to hand sew the bottom half of the leg to the top half, but I think I will need to machine sew these with a stretch stitch. Next is adding the pockets, which I plan to use leftover pants fabric for!
See you next time! Hopefully next week <3
